Dickerson PTSA Weekly E-News Blast August 30, 2010 Important Dates at DMS SEPTEMBER 1-Picture Day. All children at Dickerson will be photographed on Sept. 1 for the Yearbook. See Details Below. DICKERSON MIDDLE SCHOOL PINNACLE INTERNET VIEWER (PIV) Pinnacle Internet Viewer will be available beginning Monday, August 30, 2010. Access PIV from the CCSD website at: http://cobbk12.org/. The Pinnacle Internet Viewer (PIV) provides parent/guardian access to students’ grades and attendance and allows parents/guardians to set up automatic e-mail notifications of attendance and/or grades. New PIV users are required to present proper ID and sign a CCSD PIV User Agreement to obtain a user ID and password. Registration times are listed below. This procedure needs to be done in person, by the parent or guardian of the student. Email and fax are not allowed to complete registration. If you have an existing PIV account through another student, you DO NOT need to obtain a new account. You may utilize your existing account and select the appropriate student to view. If you have misplaced your account information, please email Gail.Thomas@cobbk12.org. Registration times for NEW PIV users will be: Tuesday, August 31, 2010 8:30 – 4:30 Friday, September 3, 2010 8:30 – 4:30 Location: Dickerson Middle School Lobby *Please be ready to present proper ID Please allow enough time, as there may be a line to register.
Dickerson Environmental and Recycling Club (formerly known as HEROES) If you have an interest in recycling and helping to preserve our planet’s environment, then please join the Dickerson Environmental and Recycling Club (formerly known as HEROES). Our 1st meeting of the school year will be this Thursday, 9/2 at 8:15 in Mrs. Lockhart’s room in 6C. Refreshments will be served. SCHOOL STORE The SCHOOL STORE will be open Mon and Wed before school for the rest of the year. School Store has all sizes of binders, Mead 5 Star notebooks, and lots of cool stuff to outfit you locker!! All at very competitive prices.Cash and checks accepted! PTSA is offering a locker organizer by Lockerworks which might make your student’s trip to his or her locker a bit easier.They fit nicely in Dickerson’s lockers. It’s time for School Pictures! School pictures are scheduled for Wednesday, September 1st. Your child will receive a pre-pay envelope on Monday, August 30th. Payment is made in advance directly to the photographer in the picture selection envelope on picture day. If students forget their money, they can wait for re-takes on Oct 12, but all students will be photographed for the yearbook on Sept. 1st.

The Pinnacle Parent Internet Viewer (PIV) was slated to go live August 20. However, because of district wide scheduling complications and the leveling of classes, the go live date will now be approximately August 30. Teachers will be sending home grade updates (hard copies) on Friday, August 27th. Mrs. Thomas will be sending home information for new to Dickerson regarding access to Pinnacle. Thank you. ♠ ♥ ♦ ♣ KIDS! EXERCISE ALL YOUR MUSCLES! LEARN TO PLAY BRIDGE! Atlanta Junior Bridge is pleased to once again bring the game of bridge to Dickerson Middle School. The benefits of bridge to children are numerous: Bridge can improve a child’s skills ranging from mathematical probabilities to social interaction and team building. Bridge is rich in social and cultural interaction – enabling children to make friends and meet people from all over Atlanta and the world. Bridge is inclusive – an activity that requires no physical skill or athletic prowess. Best of all, Bridge is FUN! Dickerson Middle School Bridge Club began on Tuesday, August 17th and will be held in Ms. Kirk’s classroom from 8 to 8:50 a.m. Smile!! It’s time for School Pictures! Dickerson Middle School Weekly- E-News Blast August 16, 2010 Important Dates at DMS AUGUST 17- Open House and PTSA General Meeting for 6th grade, 6:00pm AUGUST 19- Open House and PTSA general Meeting for 7th & 8th grades, 6:00pm AUGUST 20- NEW Tribune Deadline for August/September Issue. AUGUST 25- Early Release SEPTEMBER 1- Picture Day NOTE-The 6th Grade Open House PTSA General Meeting on the 17th will be the business meeting to approve the 2010-2011 PTSA budget. CLICK HERE TO READ PROPOSED BUDGET FROM THE FRONT OFFICE: Important Information regarding your students’ safety: 1. There are no before-school or after-school child care programs at the middle school or high school levels. This is unchanged from previous school years. 2. Students may NOT be dropped off before 8:45A.M. unless they have a specific appointment with a teacher, are participating in Intramurals, or are participating in a club which meets on that day. We have students on our front steps as early as 7:00 A.M. each day. Please understand that no function ever begins before 8:00 A.M. This means students sit outside, alone and unsupervised during this time. 3. Dismissal is at 4:15 P.M. We have had MANY students not picked up until after 5:30 P.M. This is not safe for students. The front office closes at 4:45. Students are encouraged to ride the bus home from school. 4. When dropping students off, they must enter the front door of the building. It is not safe for them to walk around the building or stand and wait outside. We have had some students attempt to leave campus. Please ensure students enter the building after being dropped off. 5. Carpool. This is an issue of safety. You MUST wait your turn. We will not accept parents who do not drive responsibly in our carpool line. We have already had several incidents of parents who are in a hurry break the line and almost hit students. Take time to think about how you would feel should your child be hit or you hit someone else’s child. We need ALL parents to understand and help us with this very important safety issue. The Dickerson Staff will not compromise on your students’ safety, and we appreciate your support in this position. All 2010-2011 Honor Roll students will receive a NEW magnet this year and we are selling the remaining magnets from last year’s inventory. Limited number while supplies last.

**Pod assignments will be posted on the morning of August 4th. ** Meet and Greet Parking VERY IMPORTANT: Parking will be limited. Johnson Ferry Baptist Church will be paving their parking lot on the 4th so their parking lot will be UNAVAILABLE for overflow parking. Please consider carpooling with a neighbor. The front and back parking lots will be available at the school, but keep in mind that parking will be tight. School Store The school store has a new home!! It will be set up in the THEATRE this year. Please take a look at your child’s supply list on the DMS website: http://www.cobb.k12.ga.us/dickerson/Supplylist.htm The School Store will be set up so you can shop by grade for quick one stop shopping. Buy your Mead college ruled notebooks ($3), locker accessories and stop by to see their very competitive pricing.
